DJ. Producer. Curator. Four decades on the decks — from Technics 1200s to a DenonDJ Prime 4+. Official DEF CON Soundtrack producer since DC 25. Founder of Tormented Radio.
djdead is a veteran American DJ, producer, and curator whose career spans more than four decades and more than 6,000 records. He began mixing at age 12 with vinyl and Technics SL-1200 MK2 turntables — acquired in 1988 and still in use today.
His sets move fluidly from underground '80s and industrial to drum & bass, breaks, progressive house, and psychill. Based in Houston, Texas, djdead has played countless club and underground events, including a monthly residency at Numbers Nightclub's Underworld (2000–2007) and current appearances at New Beat.
A fixture in the DEF CON Arts & Entertainment Department, he has produced the official DEF CON Soundtracks since 2017 — available via defconcommunications.bandcamp.com — and appears on SomaFM's DEF CON Radio. His work bridges hacker culture, dark-club aesthetics, and modern electronic composition.
As Executive Producer on Provision's The Consequence (2008, A Different Drum) and author of early remixes spanning 2000–2005 (archived at youtube.com/@djdeadtx), djdead's production catalog runs deep. His full release history is documented on Discogs.
Rooted in dark electronic and hacker-industrial aesthetics, djdead has expanded into organic house, progressive house, and psychill — balancing analog warmth with digital precision. He performs with a DenonDJ Prime 4+ controller running Serato DJ Pro, backed by a vinyl archive spanning the 1970s through the 2020s.
The roots of Tormented Radio reach back to 1998, when MPEGRadio.com launched one of the first streaming goth/industrial stations. A few years later djdead became curator and station manager, continuing the project after MPEGRadio went offline and renaming it Tormented Radio — a nod to his long-held domain tormented.com (est. 1998). The station remains an underground hub for goth, darkwave, EBM, and industrial music worldwide.
